Celebrate World Breastfeeding Week with my free Holistic Breastfeeding Guide packed with resources for moms, babies, and breastfeeding support.
Supporting moms, babies, and families with evidence-informed, holistic resources for a healthier start.
Every year from August 1–7, families and healthcare professionals around the world come together to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.
It's an opportunity to recognize the many benefits of breastfeeding, honor the incredible dedication of breastfeeding mothers, and continue improving education and support for families.
For me, this week is also deeply personal.
I breastfed my daughter for seven years.
It was one of the greatest privileges of my life.
It was also one of the most challenging experiences I've ever navigated.
When my daughter was born, I assumed breastfeeding would come naturally.
Instead, we encountered challenge after challenge.
We struggled with latching.
I questioned my milk supply.
We discovered oral ties.
She experienced colic, reflux, eczema, digestive issues, and food allergies.
Sleep became incredibly difficult.
I found myself constantly searching for answers while trying to care for a baby who was constantly uncomfortable.
There were nights I cried right alongside her, wondering if we would ever figure things out.
Looking back, I realize something important.
I wasn't failing.
I simply didn't yet have the knowledge, resources, and support I needed.
That experience eventually became the reason I do the work I do today.
One of the biggest predictors of breastfeeding success isn't perfection.
It's having the right support.
When parents have access to knowledgeable providers, compassionate encouragement, and trustworthy education, they feel more confident making decisions for themselves and their babies.
That confidence changes everything.
Over time, I began working with practitioners who understood breastfeeding challenges from a more holistic perspective.
As we uncovered the underlying factors contributing to our struggles, things slowly began improving.
Those experiences shaped not only my breastfeeding journey, but also my philosophy as a holistic doctor.
Breastfeeding is about much more than milk production.
It's also about supporting the health of both mother and baby.
Sometimes that means addressing latch challenges.
Sometimes it means evaluating oral function.
Sometimes it means supporting gut health.
Sometimes it means helping moms navigate food sensitivities, reflux, eczema, or digestive concerns.
Sometimes it means making space for sleep, stress management, nourishment, and emotional well-being.
Every breastfeeding journey is unique.
That's why I believe breastfeeding support should be individualized rather than one-size-fits-all.
After years of learning through my own experience, advanced education, and supporting other families, I wanted to gather many of the resources I wish I'd had from the beginning.
That's why I created my Free Holistic Breastfeeding Guide.
Inside you'll find resources covering topics such as:
Whether you're preparing to breastfeed, currently nursing, pumping, navigating challenges, or supporting another family, I hope these resources help you feel more informed, encouraged, and supported.
If you're looking for practical, compassionate, holistic breastfeeding resources, I'd love to share them with you.

Whether you read one section or explore every resource, my hope is that you'll feel a little less overwhelmed and a little more confident on your journey.
One area I'm especially passionate about is supporting families whose babies experience food allergies, eczema, reflux, digestive symptoms, or other reactions while breastfeeding.
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:
"My baby is allergic to my breast milk."
In the vast majority of cases, that's not actually what's happening.
Rather than reacting to breast milk itself, some babies may react to food proteins and other food components that can pass from a mother's diet into her breast milk.
For many families, this can feel overwhelming.
Parents are often told to stop breastfeeding altogether or begin eliminating more and more foods without a clear plan.
While every situation is unique, I've found that many breastfeeding journeys can continue successfully with the right support.
That may include working with an experienced practitioner, thoughtfully modifying the mother's diet when appropriate, supporting maternal gut health, baby's gut health, and looking more broadly at the underlying factors that may be contributing to both mom's and baby's health.
Breastfeeding doesn't always have to end because challenges arise.
Sometimes it simply requires a different approach.
Because this topic deserves a much deeper conversation, I've written a separate article that explores allergy breastfeeding, elimination diets, and common misconceptions in more detail.

One of the resources I'm most proud of is my growing directory of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and other breastfeeding professionals who are passionate about supporting families.
If you're an IBCLC or breastfeeding provider who shares a compassionate, evidence-informed approach to care, I'd love to learn more about your practice.
I'm continually expanding my referral network so that more families can find knowledgeable support wherever they live.

Breastfeeding provides ideal nutrition while also delivering antibodies, beneficial bacteria, enzymes, hormones, and other bioactive compounds that help support a baby's immune system, gut health, growth, and development. Breastfeeding also offers important health benefits for mothers and creates a unique opportunity for bonding and connection.
Yes. Breast milk continues to provide valuable nutrition and immune-supporting compounds beyond infancy. The decision about how long to breastfeed is personal and may vary for every family.
Breast milk contains antibodies and many immune-supporting components that help protect babies while their immune systems continue to develop. It also helps establish a healthy gut microbiome, which plays an important role in overall immune function.
Breast milk helps nourish beneficial gut bacteria and supports the development of a healthy intestinal lining. Because so much of our immune system is connected to the gut, this early foundation may have lasting effects on overall health.
Yes. Breastfeeding supports more than just the baby. Many mothers describe breastfeeding as a meaningful opportunity for bonding, slowing down, and connecting with their baby. Research has also identified numerous health benefits for mothers.
Breastfeeding isn't always easy. Challenges such as pain, tongue ties, low milk supply, food allergies, pumping, or returning to work can make the journey more difficult. Seeking support early from knowledgeable professionals can often make a significant difference.
I've created a free Holistic Breastfeeding Guide that shares practical, evidence-informed strategies to help support both mom and baby while creating a strong foundation for lifelong health.
