Learn why health changes don't stick, what creates the gap between knowing and doing, and how greater alignment supports lasting health.
Most people don't need more health information.
In fact, many people already know quite a bit.
They know to eat more whole foods. Get more sleep. Move their body. Drink more water. Spend less time staring at screens. Manage stress. Spend more time outside.
The information usually isn't the problem.
And yet many smart, capable people still find themselves feeling stuck.
Which raises an important question:
If we already know so much, why do health changes so often fail to last?
Over the years, I've come to believe the answer often lies in what I call the gap between knowing and doing.
One pattern has shown up again and again throughout my own healing journey and in the people I've had the privilege of working with.
I think of it as the gap between knowing and doing.
It's the space between understanding what supports health...
...and consistently being able to live it.
That gap isn't a sign of failure. It's often where the real work begins.
Most people don't wake up in the morning thinking:
"I hope I make choices that move me away from my health goals today."
Quite the opposite.
Most people genuinely want to feel better.
They want more energy. Better health. Less stress. More freedom.
But life has a way of getting in the way.
Responsibilities. Deadlines. Family obligations. Unexpected challenges. Exhaustion. Old habits. Long-standing stress. Competing priorities.
And sometimes, experiences or emotional wounds we've been carrying for far longer than we realize.
Before long, the things we intended to do become the things we'll "start next week."
When people feel stuck, the natural response is often to look for more information.
Another podcast. Another book. Another expert. Another supplement. Another protocol.
And sometimes new information is valuable. But often the problem isn't a lack of knowledge.
It's understanding what's getting in the way of applying the knowledge we already have.
Because if information alone created lasting change, most people would already be where they want to be.
Over the years, I've become increasingly interested in the idea of alignment.
Alignment between:
When those things begin moving in the same direction, change often feels more natural.
Not necessarily easy. But less like a constant battle.
When they're not aligned, even the best intentions can feel difficult to sustain.
Many people assume they struggle because they need more discipline.
More motivation. More willpower.
But I don't think that's usually the whole story.
Sometimes people are exhausted. Sometimes they're overwhelmed. Sometimes they're carrying years of stress. Sometimes they're trying to force a solution that isn't actually aligned with what their body needs right now.
Sometimes the challenge isn't effort.
It's understanding where the resistance is coming from and how to work through it and with it.
One of the things I've learned is that the gap between knowing and doing doesn't look the same for everyone.
For one person, it might be chronic stress.
For someone else, it might be exhaustion.
A lack of support. Old habits. Fear of change. Competing priorities.
Or simply trying to change too many things at once.
That's why I don't believe lasting health comes from copying someone else's plan.
It comes from understanding what's creating your gap.
One thing I've learned is that sustainable change rarely comes from perfection.
It comes from awareness.
Small shifts. Consistency. Understanding.
And a willingness to keep moving forward even when things aren't perfect.
Because health isn't built through one perfect decision.
It's built through thousands of small decisions made over time.
The beginning of summer is one of my favorite times to pause and reflect.
Not just on health.
But on life.
- Where am I actually headed?
- What's working?
- What's no longer working?
- Where do I feel disconnected?
- And what might need my attention right now?
Because sometimes the next breakthrough isn't learning something new.
Sometimes it's finally closing the gap between knowing and doing.
Many factors can influence consistency, including stress, energy levels, daily routines, competing priorities, beliefs, habits, and lifestyle demands.
Sometimes. But many people already know what healthy habits look like. The challenge is often understanding what's preventing consistent action.
The gap may involve habits, stress, overwhelm, competing priorities, mindset, lifestyle demands, or a lack of alignment between intentions and daily actions.
Alignment means creating greater consistency between your goals, beliefs, values, daily actions, what your body may need, and the life you're trying to create.
Absolutely. Sustainable health is often built through small, consistent actions rather than dramatic short-term efforts.
