What is a medical root cause analysis? What are root causes of health problems?

Root causes are commonly used in holistic health, functional medicine, and integrative medicine.

And that is one of the questions I get the most, "Wait what is a root cause?"

A root cause can be thought of as an underlying reason for why something is happening.

The picture of the tree above is commonly used as an example.

The leaves and branches are the signs and symptoms that you see or experience. For example, if your child has eczema, the skin changes are what you see and what the child experiences as itchy or painful.

There can be multiple signs and symptoms that create an overall problem.

This is where allopathic medicine will give you a steroid cream for eczema to apply topically. For some, it may work. For others, eczema never goes away or if it does, it keeps coming back.

This is because the root cause of the problem was not addressed.

When we look at the picture, the roots are underground. They are not easily seen or accessed and that is similar to the root causes or underlying reasons for the various signs and symptoms we may see.

Until the root causes are addressed, the problem will keep returning. In this case eczema. In some cases, the signs and symptoms may manifest in different forms and different signs and symptoms as the child "grows out" of a condition.

With the root cause still at play, the body is still experiencing signs and symptoms until those root causes are identified and addressed, and this can continue into adulthood.

This is where working with a knowledgeable practitioner is extremely valuable.

As practitioners, we specialize in the assessment and evaluation of the problem, signs and symptoms, identifying the potential root causes, working through addressing the root causes, monitoring, and making modifications and changes as needed.

This whole process I refer to as a root cause analysis. It's what I specialize in helping families and their little ones with when they have colic, eczema, reflux, breastfeeding/feeding challenges, food allergies, food intolerances, food sensitivities, sensory processing disorder, or autism.

My clinical and nutrition background as a Holistic and Integrative Doctor of Physical Therapy, combined with first-hand experience with my daughter having the signs and symptoms mentioned above, allows me to see patterns clearly.

As a holistic practitioner, I not only look at physical aspects such as nutrition, gut health, and structure, but also energetics, emotional health, mental health, and family dynamics that may be contributing to the signs and symptoms you are seeing.

Often, there are multiple root causes at play, and addressing them holistically results in the best outcomes.

This root cause analysis can be applied to your experience as a parent or caregiver as well.

When we feel stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed, these are simply signs and symptoms that our body is displaying.

Based on your needs, the Mindful Moms Circle coaching packages may be a wonderful fit to help you and your family become happier, healthier, and more present so that you can enjoy your time spent together.

I don't want to make assumptions, because each of your situations are so individualized.
